Here's the Contest Journal, in which we list the current contest, its rules, and past contests/winners/sponsors. The contests generally require Golden Sun fanworks. Neither fanart, photography/cosplay, nor fanfiction has an advantage over the others. If you have an entry, send a link to it to the club in a note. CURRENT CONTEST: Starts: November 10, 2009 Entries stop being accepted: February 10, 2010 Voting begins: February 11, 2010 Voting ends: February 21, 2010 Sponsors: Objective: Your mission, should you accept it, is to blow our socks off. Our real-world socks. This means your entry needs to be real-world, too. We want you to show off your hidden talents! The only rules for this contest are that 1) your entry must somehow be related to Golden Sun, and 2) it must not be 2-D art, computer art, or a piece of writing. Beyond that, it's all up to you. Are you a sculptor? Sculpt something! Are you in choir? Sing something! Are you stuck looking for ideas? Here are just a few: Cosplay-sewing, blanket-weaving, plushie-making, embroidery-stitching, origami-folding, song-writing, papier-mache-ing, scarf-knitting, interpretive-dance-dancing, light-show-producing, latte-art-pouring, nature-collage-making, prop-making, cake-baking, or cloud-formation-spotting! COSPLAY: if you would like to submit a cosplay that you had made prior to the announcement of this contest, we would like you to make a new photoshoot for it. Showcase something more than just the costume! For example, try to find a particularly great setting, or re-enact a scene from Golden Sun. (Otherwise, it's not fair to the participants who made something new just for the contest.) For this contest, the first-place prize will be a copy of Golden Sun DS if we get more than 25 entries! Number of Entries: 2. That means 23 more until Golden Sun DS! ENTERING To submit a contest entry, please post it as a deviation to deviantArt and then send us a link in a note. Your entry must be submitted before the due date has finished. As long as it follows the contest rules, your entry can be just about any medium. We accept digital and traditional drawings, comics, cosplay, flash movies, and fanfiction. Most contests are geared toward drawings and comics, but we have had separate contests for fanfiction. (Here is a clarification about fanfiction word limits, and here is a recommendation about the number of entries per person.) You can have as many entries as you'd like. However, we recommend that you not submit multiple fanfiction entries, because it takes voters much more time to read those. VOTING Send your votes to us in a note. Currently, the norm is two votes per member, nonmembers cannot vote, and you cannot vote for yourself. The votes may be given to two separate entries (e.g. "I vote once for #4 and once for #9"), or twice for the same entry (e.g. "Two votes for #3!") Also, state the number of the entry you would like to vote for, not the title or artist. PRIZES AND SPONSORING For this particular contest, the first-place prize will be a copy of Golden Sun DS! Second and third places will receive prize art. The prize art for any given contest will always be a free art request from one of the contest's sponsors. Usually, it will be a drawing or painting, either digital or traditional, but written prose/poetry prizes are allowed. The winner's request can be of anything that the sponsor feels comfortable drawing, and is not limited to Golden Sun fan-works. For the sponsor's sanity, try to keep your request simple (in terms of content, not the detail of your description.) It's unlikely that he or she will be happy with the prospect of drawing every single summon found in GS2 for you, so maybe tone that request down a bit. The contest sponsor is the club member that draws the prize art for a contest. When a contest is over, we note both the winner and the sponsor to say who has won. The sponsor must then contact the winner and ask him or her what picture he or she would like for a prize. The winner makes a request, the sponsor creates the request, and then life is good. The sponsor is free to ask the winner to make a different request if he or she is unwilling to draw the first one for whatever reason. COMMON QUESTIONS What are the rules to being a sponsor? - The rule is that you have to actually make the prize like you volunteered to. We would also prefer that you not participate in the contest you're sponsoring... although you can if you really want to. Also, if the winner requests a picture that you are uncomfortable drawing, you are free to ask him or her to change the request. How many characters can I have per entry? - However many you want unless we specify a minimum or maximum. Can I use a collaborative work between myself and a friend as an entry? - Yes, although both you and your friend have to "enter" it separately, and both state that it is a collaborative work. It will be counted as one entry with two artists, but we still require that you each submit a separate entry note. You and your friend will have to "split" the prize, though, so pick one thing for the sponsor that you both want. May I edit my entry after I've sent it in? - You may edit your entry as much as you would like until voting starts. After voting has begun, do not alter your entry in any way. Do I have to enter? - No, all the contests are optional. We'd love it if you did enter, though. Do I have to vote? - Technically, no. But seriously, it takes all of three minutes to look through the entries and pick a favorite or two. It shouldn't be a problem. Can I vote for myself? - Nope, sorry. If you honestly believe yours was the best entry, then it should win on its own, without your help. Have you run out of questions yet? - Yes. Recent Blog Entries
